DIOCESE OF ALBANY CATHOLIC SCHOOLS

Thank you for your interest in St. Mary's/St. Alphonsus.

At St. Mary’s/St. Alphonsus we combine tried and true teaching techniques with the latest technology. Our challenging academic program allows even our youngest students to learn Spanish or visit the library and work in the computer lab, while grade 8 students can graduate with high school credit in foreign language, science and math.

Located in the heart of downtown Glens Falls, SMSA Regional Catholic School is the only Middle States accredited elementary school in Warren and Washington counties, serving over 250 children from pre-school through grade 8. A team of experienced and energetic teachers brings its ability to make learning joyful and each child feel cherished.

With the tremendous support of loyal alumni and friends, the school has recently renovated its magnificent, historic building (designed by renowned architect Ralph Adams Cram, it includes a two-story Great Hall modeled after Westminster Hall) including a pottery studio with onsite kiln, a black box theater, new playground, kitchen and science laboratory.

SMSA attracts families who are looking for a challenging academic program, small classes, a nurturing atmosphere and learning that takes place in the light of God’s love. While many of the families are Catholic, roughly one-third are of different faith traditions. Many are made able to afford SMSA with help from our generous tuition assistance programs.

Various aspects of the school appeal to families in the Glens Falls area. Many alums graduate at the top of their classes in local high schools, and/or lead peers on the ball field, in student government organizations and parish youth groups. They gain early experience in these fields during their middle school years at SMSA, where they have the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities such as sports, student newspaper, student council, band and chorus. Parents also appreciate the school’s before- and after-school childcare program, Camp Kerry, which features snack time, supervised homework help and indoor and outdoor recreation.

Several things remain consistent throughout an SMSA education—the individual attention necessary to help each child grow at his or her own pace; recognition of, and respect for, each child’s particular skills, gifts and needs; and the desire to instill a thirst for knowledge and a love for God and neighbor.
