March 17 COVID-19 Update: Diocesan Schools Remain Closed through April 1

By now you are likely aware, Governor Andrew Cuomo has issued an executive order requiring all schools to be closed through April 1, 2020 to reduce the spread of COVID-19. The Diocese of Albany Catholic Schools will remain closed through Wednesday, April 1 and will first attempt to re-open on Thursday, April 2 unless directed to remain closed for an additional period of time. Please notify your respective school communities accordingly and as soon as possible.

The state will reassess whether to extend the school closures further and continue to suspend the 180-day instructional requirement. It is quite possible that school districts that have announced closure through mid-April may re-evaluate this decision in light of the additional stipulations in the Governor’s declaration.

All decisions pertaining to school closure will continue to be made in consultation with local departments of health, government agencies and officials, and the Catholic School Office. The complexities surrounding such closures do not call for simply deferring to the local public school district’s decision.
