St. Francis de Sales School Welcomes Vet Tech

Mrs. Shelva Stone, vet tech at Herkimer Veterinary Associates, and her canine helper, Jack, visited the first graders at St. Francis de Sales Regional Catholic School. Mrs. Stone’s presentation included pet care tips, demonstrations, and the veterinarian’s role in keeping pets healthy.

All Saints Catholic Academy visits Nanoscale College

Students from All Saints Catholic Academy took a field trip to The College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering at SUNY Albany. A collection of our seventh and eighth grade students visited the facility to learn about the amazing technology and careers available just down the road from All Saints. We are very fortunate to have an opportunity to see and learn about 21st century developments and discoveries in our own backyard. It was a fascinating afternoon!

All Saints Catholic Academy seventh grader, Lauri, suited up like engineers do at the CNSE facility on Fuller Road.

Seventh and eighth grade students from All Saints Catholic Academy tried their hands at creating polymers during a demonstration at The College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering.

Terrell, grade 7, is fascinated by the polymer experiment that students participated in during a field trip to CNSE.

We may have future nanoscale engineers in All Saints’ seventh grade students, Gian, Christian, and Adam.

Educator Training At Fordham University

Seven educators from the Albany Diocese attended a training on grant writing at Fordham University’s Graduate School of Education. The session was the result of a four-diocesan partnership (Archdiocese of New York, Dioceses of Brooklyn, Rockville Centre, and Albany) with the University’s Center for Catholic School Leadership and Faith-Based Education. Dr. Anita Batiste, Associate Dean for Partnerships, presented tools, hints, and shared resources for the attendees to gain insight on the grant writing process.

St. Francis de Sales students learn about natural resources

The Second Grade class at St. Francis de Sales Regional Catholic School had just completed a unit on the “environment and our natural resources”. Mrs. Jacquays came to visit our classroom explaining her job at the Waterford Water Treatment Plant. She supplied materials for the students and demonstrated with water experiments.

Sacred Heart’s School’s Drama Club will present Disney’s “The Little Mermaid JR.” at 7:00pm on Thursday, May 9^th and Friday, May 10^th in the school gym. Settings, costumes, music, dance routines and student performances await an audience who will be thoroughly entertained. All families, friends and neighbors are invited to one or both of these star performances!

Sacred Heart School is proud to announce its four winners of the Lions Eye Bank’s Regional “Through Their Eyes” calendar contest. These four students represent one-third of the twelve overall winners for the 2014 calendar. The winners and our art teacher, Mona Zimmerman, attended a reception where all twelve were awarded for their creative efforts. Lucas Hayek’s work will be January, Ayanna Allen’s in April, Gabrielle Neisen’s in July and Rosa Alfano’s in October.

St. Francis De Sales Rainforest Party

The second grade class at St. Francis De Sales School just completed a rainforest unit. Each student wrote and shared a report on one plant and one animal from the rainforest. They completed the unit with a celebration, tasting and sharing foods from the rainforest. It was such fun!

Troy Area Catholic Schools Join Together for Field Day

Troy, NY – Thursday, May 2, 2013. St. Augustine’s School, Sacred Heart School and St. Jude the Apostle School gathered together at the campus of Catholic Central High School on for their annual Field Day. CCHS Seniors led the elementary school students in the events, and shared a BBQ lunch.

Students from all schools participated in fun activities that built teamwork and community among the area’s Catholic Schools.

2nd graders from St. Augustine’s and Sacred Heart play volleyball with assistance from seniors from CCHS.

Bishop Maginn High School Senior Caitlin Hupe was presented with the Section 2 Girls’ Basketball Committee’s Scholar-Athlete award at a dinner on March 3, 2013. The Scholar-Athletes are selected based on their achievements in the classroom, the community, and on the basketball court. Congratulations to Caitlin!
